Structural Heart & Valve Therapy

Transcatheter Tricuspid Valve Replacement

A catheter-based treatment for a severely leaking tricuspid valve, relieving swelling and fatigue in patients unsuitable for surgery.
Transcatheter valve implanted in the heart via catheter

Overview

Severe leakage of the tricuspid valve on the right side of the heart causes swelling of the legs and abdomen, fatigue and poor appetite. Surgery for this valve carries high risk in many patients.

Transcatheter tricuspid therapies — replacement or repair — are delivered through a vein, offering a less invasive option for carefully selected patients.

Who may need it

  • Severe tricuspid regurgitation with symptoms despite medicines
  • Failing surgical tricuspid valve or ring

What to expect

  1. Performed through a vein in the leg or neck under imaging guidance.
  2. The new valve or repair device is positioned and deployed.

Recovery & aftercare

  • Hospital stay of a few days; swelling and breathlessness typically improve over the following weeks.
